What level of English do I need?
actEnglish intends to run courses for low and beginner level English learners in the future. However at the moment we only offer workshops and courses to those who have an intermediate (B1) level or above.
Some classes will include mixed abilities but others may be for advanced/ proficiency (C1 upwards), or intermediate (B1/B2) levels only. Please check the course or workshop level requirements before booking.
How do I know my level?
Maybe you haven’t been tested recently or have never done an English course before. Maybe you have learnt English simply by living in an English speaking country. In this case make sure you have a conversational level of English. This means you feel confident understanding basic instruction and can communicate with other students. All other issues are what the course is there to help you with!
Am I advanced or intermediate? Can I get tested before I start the course?
Everyone has different issues and a lot of what actEnglish does is to address your specific challenges – especially with pronunciation. If you want to know if you can join an advanced level course or workshop, you may want to come for a pre-course test where we can advise you on your level and also prepare course materials and support for your particular strengths and weaknesses. The test will last about 45 minutes and costs £20. Please email actenglishcourses@gmail.com to request this service. All tests are conducted at convenient public venues in London.
