“We aim to provide the skills to help you feel confident and equipped to make the most of your experiences living in the UK. I also hope that actEnglish can be the perfect preparation for any non-native English speaker wanting to pursue future acting courses or theatre work”

actEnglish is run by experienced English language teachers who are actively involved in, and passionate about drama and the performing arts. We use this background to combine language teaching methods and theory with practical acting and drama training. We believe this is one of the best ways to improve language skills and build confidence for all levels, strengthening understanding of native speech, correct pronunciation and common speech patterns.

We want to provide a hub for people to engage in drama without feeling intimidated so that they can build confidence and benefit from the range of ways theatre can improve language. We look to advise and support people to gain as much as possible from us but also prepare and direct them toward the many other opportunities London has to offer. We aim to support both the experienced and inexperienced, high and low level English speakers to benefit from a mutually supportive community of people offering a wide activities that celebrate everything the theatre has to offer.

actEnglish might benefit actors, people working in customer service, teachers, business workers or anyone simply wanting to be better communicators.

Course outcomes:

  • A focus on expressive, natural English used in everyday speech.
  • Expressing and finding your personality in another language.
  • Using emotion & dramatisation to work on stronger phonetics and intonation.

  • Exploring regional differences, accents, colloquial language and slang.
  • Confidence building through the development of acting and performance skills.
  • Knowing how and when we use formal and informal English
  • Learning in a fun, relaxed and mutually supportive atmosphere.

General objectives:

  • Pointing individuals toward courses and opportunities in London that best suit them.
  • Celebrating everything drama, theatre and performing arts have to offer.
  • Connecting people to the range of theatres and performance spaces available in London
  • Providing inclusive opportunities to perform and produce theatre.
  • Providing the skills needed to continue learning and working in theatre beyond.

We are always looking to develop new ideas and methods and discover the endless ways drama can help develop language, as well as connect openly with language and drama groups across the City. If you would like to get involved or link up please get in touch using the contact page or booking form.
